The creation of the “Azerbaijan‑Georgia‑Türkiye‑Bulgaria” green energy corridor is of crucial importance for ensuring the region’s energy security, Report informs, citing Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a joint press conference in Sofia with his Bulgarian counterpart Velislava Petrova‑Chamova.
Fidan also emphasised that energy is one of the main directions of cooperation between Türkiye and Bulgaria. “Our relations expand, diversify, and deepen every year.”
“The memorandum on cooperation in the transmission and trade of green electricity, signed last year in Baku with the participation of Azerbaijan and Georgia, is of great significance for energy security. At the same time, thanks to the memorandum on cooperation in electricity and energy efficiency signed that same year, we are boosting our energy cooperation with Bulgaria,” Fidan noted.
Recall that in April 2025, the energy ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye signed a memorandum on green energy cooperation, launching the project to create the Azerbaijan‑Georgia‑Türkiye‑Bulgaria energy corridor. The preparation of a feasibility study for the project will begin in 2026.
The new corridor will ensure the supply of green electricity from the Caspian region to Southeast Europe, particularly Bulgaria, as well as to Romania and Hungary.
